A customer brought in this vehicle for a new catalytic converter to get rid of the P0420 code.

After installing a new catalytic converter I went to clear the codes, which cleared successfully, but the following codes are still there:

P0016 Crank-Cam Position Correlation

P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

The engine does run a little rough, and sometimes will not start without giving it a little gas. Also when idling if I rev the engine to 2,000 rpm's a little rattle comes up and will not accelerate more.

I am assuming the P0344 wiring issue is causing the P0016 code, but can that be possible? Can this wiring fault cause the engine to run rough and possible out of time like this?

Good afternoon.

Yes it can. Inspect the harness very carefully. At the cam sensor, peel back the covering on the harness about six inches. That is a common place for the failure.

Do the same to the crank sensor as well.

Make sure you have the 5 volt reference signal to each sensor as well.
