I purchased this truck on February 15th, and as I was driving home the check engine light came on. I have an OBDII scan tool, I went through an entire system scan and P2198 was the first code. That same day I personally replaced the O2 sensor. I erased the module. On the 17th the check engine light came back on except the code was now P0153. I replaced that O2 sensor as well. Since the 17th I am getting the P0153 code. On February 24 I replaced all the fuses that are related to the PCM. On February 27th I replaced the fuel filter.

This truck has been in Pennsylvania and Michigan before I bought it, so it has a good bit of rust. I live in Georgia for reference. I am going to be looking into the quality of the air filter as well as the mass air flow sensor. The exhaust system is also rusted. The car sometimes jerks forward when accelerating. Before I replaced the fuel filter the exhaust smoke was white, I haven't been able to see the smoke since then. When I drive it, there doesn't seem to be a bad smell. It does go through gas quickly. On Wednesday I had 3/4 tank, I have driven maybe 60 miles since Wednesday and I'm already at 1/4 tank. Any help would be appreciated. I do plan on replacing the exhaust system because of the rust, I'm just not certain if that is the cause. This morning on March 1 I took out the air filter and it is fairly clean. I have not taken out MAF yet, I want to wait and see what one you suggest.

Yep, it sounds like you have a fuel injector that is stuck open. I would remove the spark plugs and one of them will be black and the other will be much cleaner, the plug with the black plug will be the problem, please remove the spark plugs for inspection and upload an image or short video of the plugs so I can see if you have any questions.

P2198 - O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich (Bank 2, Sensor 1)

P0153 - O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 2, Sensor 1)

If the exhaust system has a leak before the primary oxygen sensors this will cause an issue as well.

Here is a guide to show what can cause rich exhaust:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/why-an-automotive-engine-will-run-rich

Here is how to change out the fuel injector once you find the bad one or two. Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos in your response of any problems so we can see what to help you with.

Thanks for the videos. The spark plugs look good mixture wise, but they are completely worn out and need to be replaced. If the EGR tube is broken this will be an issue, sorry i could not tell from the video. You cannot have any leaks before the primary oxygen sensors. I like the doggies! Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

I checked out the ignition coils and they looked good. I just put in the new spark plugs and put boot lubricant on.

While working on putting the truck back together, I realized that the PCV hose was snapped in half. The hose itself was fairly crunchy, I suspect dry rot. I ordered a replacement from RockAuto, it should be here on the 6th. I'm not very patient when waiting for what I want. So, the next few days will be rough. I love my truck! Thank you for all your help, Ken. I will keep updating until it's finished.

Sounds good, thanks for the video of the EGR tube. It does look broken and there can be no leaks, so we need to repair/replace that as well.

I didn't know until my dad told me that I needed to tighten the plugs. Once I did that, it stopped sounding like it was misfiring. I am waiting for the EGR tube to be delivered to the Ford dealership near me from the national distribution center, which is about a week. I drove it to work just now, and man, that truck is fast as heck! It shocked me.

I replaced the EGR tube today. I cleared the PCM module. Ran through another entire system scan and I am still getting a PCM code, 4x4m control module, and now an ABS code. The ABS and 4x4 code is U0401-20 Invalid or missing (CAN) data from the (PCM). The PCM code is P1000-FF On-board diagnostic (OBD) systems readiness test not complete.

Please start a new thread for the ABS and 4x4 codes, on the p1000 means you need to keep driving it because the monitors have not set.

Here is a guide to go over which will help us get the monitors' set:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-reset-an-engine-computer-monitor-program

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/scan-test-is-incomplete-p1000

Let us know how it goes.

Since you didn't have the code before you changed the sensor, I would say it is defective, I would get another one and then clear the codes.

Even though the P2198 O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Rich (Bank 2 Sensor 1) populated. Could that code simply have been the EGR tube?

Yes, it can because the EGR can affect the mixture if it leaks. Have you installed the new one yet?

Good news, I would clear any codes and then just drive it to see what happens. Did the code come back since the repair?

After I replaced the EGR tube, I cleared the codes. I drove it an hour away then an hour home and when I was driving an hour out, the check engine light came back on. When I got home, I ran the scan again and that's when the o2 sensor codes came back up. I don't have time at the moment to take care of the o2 and the fuel injectors until the weekend.

Okay, let me know how it goes, do you hear any exhaust leaks while it is running? Also, does the engine idle smoothly?
