Crankshaft Position Camshaft position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A

The interesting thing is my son had my reader while away at school. I took the car to a garage to have the code read. Garage told me oil was low, and filling it up might clear the light, and it did. A week later the light was on again. Son was home from school, I checked, same code, I cleared the code and it came back on after a couple of minutes running. I cleared it, added some oil and the light went out for one day, then came back. Car is starting to run a bit rough, So I think there is a problem.

Any suggestions on how to repair are greatly welcome.

This could could be caused by low oil as the oil control valve on these engine are sensitive to oil level and viscosity. So even using the wrong oil can cause these issues.

What I would do is start an oil consumption test to find out how much oil you are burning. This is the likely cause of using so much oil that it gets low this quickly.

Also, I would remove and replace the PCV valve because that will cause excessive oil use as well. The process is below.

Thanks for the information. I will give it a try. I will replace PCV valve, that is an easy fix.

Interesting that the light seems to be sensitive to oil level. But now, even with oil level good, it won’t reset. Should that be interpreted as an issue with oil control?

Yes. More than likely there is an issue but this is the place to start. If the oil level is correct and the code is still active then we are going to have to run through this testing.

Take a look below and let us know if you have questions on this. This requires a scan tool so it is not the easiest testing to do.

Cool, thanks. The car has 165,000 miles on it. I might just replace the oil control valve. I have a scan tool that shows engine data, but only one element at a time, and no data history.

Okay. The control valve is the likely issue. Here is the process for replacing the right hand side.

Hi, replaced PCV today, was not a bad job, hard to reach, but I got it. It was clicking when I shook it, so it was not stuck, worst case is I wasted $12.00.

VVT valve needs to be ordered. I will go ahead and to that. It is under the head covers of the front facing block, correct? I sure hope so, getting to the rear facing bank will be a pain. I will replace the cover gasket and the gaskets for the spark plug penetrations too.

They are not on the rear. Take a look at the info below. You need to remove the intake manifold to access them so I included that process but I gave the entire process prior.
