Overheating and squeaking

Overheating, expansion tank had a crack and no coolant, So i replaced the expansion tank and filled the car with coolant. The temperature gauge goes from 195 up to almost the red mark, then goes down and back up randomly, either when driving or at idle. I think there might be air in the radiator or maybe it is the water pump. The heater does get hot. Some times very hot. It also squeaks when i am driving and gets faster squeak when i accelerate, squeaks when idle sometimes too. I do not think the squeaking is the brake. It is either the idle pulley bearing or water pump. Your thoughts? Thank you.

Sounds like air in the system. Start with a cold engine, remove the surge tank cap. Fill to cold level. Start engine and run until the upper radiator hos gets warm. add coolant to bring the level to full hot. Replace surge tank cap. Shut off engine and let it cool. Check coolant level, it should be at the full cold mark. If not check the cap for proper pressure and sealing.

Squeak is one of the items you stated. Could be a bad pump that is not circulating.

Thank you for the quick response Steve. Okay, i will do what you said and see what happens. When i first added the coolant and turned the car on i saw the coolant getting sucked into the radiator from the expansion tank, then stopped like the radiator was full. Yes maybe there is some air in there.
