I replaced the sensor and the relay and my fan still does not turn on (cold or hot). Then I bypassed it so the fan would turn on and off with the ignition key. So I took it to a shop because I had to have it fixed for registration and they charged me $203.00. My fan still is not working and car is overheating. They replaced the coolant temperature sensor (again) coolant reservoir and anti-freeze.. Please figure this one out, my late registration penalties are adding up .

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Has power been run directly to the fan motor and it still doesn't run? If that is the case, it sounds like the motor itself is bad.

Has anyone checked the relay for it? It is located under the hood in the fuse/relay box. See picture 1.

Let me know.

The fan works only when I jump the coolant sensor then it will turn on, when I start my motor and remain running until I shut my car off.

If you are disconnecting and jumping the connector at the sensor, it sounds like a connection issue. Take a look at the attached pic and let me know which sensor was replaced. There are two different types of the 1.9L so I attached a pic of both. If you replaced the wrong sensor, it will only affect the gauge in the vehicle. The other tells the computer when to turn on the fan. Also. I attached a pic of the wiring for the blower motor. It is really a simple system. Once the PCM receives a signal that requires the fan to turn on, it powers the relay and then power is sent to the fan motor. So, either the wrong sensor was replaced, there is a broken wire between the PCM and the relay, or a wiring issue to the PCM.

Let me know.

On the second picture it is the coolant sensor connector that I jumped. How high on the temperature gauge is the needle supposed to considered "normal". The needle on my cars temperature gauge raises up a little over the 1/2 mark. That seems like it runs a little too hot.

Normally, center is where it should be, but if it is only slightly over that point, is may not be a concern.
