Overheating

I drained the cooling system and replaced the thermostat. When I started replacing the coolant, it would not take even half the coolant that I removed. I thought that by running the engine with the heater on high, the thermostat would open and allow the fluid to inter. Did not happen. Engine overheated again without allowing the rest of the fluid to enter.

Hmm, look at the simple possibilities first. Make sure that you have the thermostat in correctly (sounds silly, but I have seen it happen). See the attached image.

Make sure that there are no kinked hoses in the cooling system. Even a slight kink can cause issues with cooling.

Also, make sure that your cooling fan is coming on.

Check those and let us know what you find, if anything.
