Overdrive light flickers and engine light now on, code p1346

That vehicle isn't offered in the US, but I will try to help. I checked the code and it is related to the Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Now, there can be more than one cause. It can be related to the timing chain, oil pressure, the VVT oil control solenoid, and so on.. I don't have images for this vehicle, but here is what I would suggest. Locate the VVT oil supply valve and make sure it isn't plugged. As far as the transmission flashing, you should have the computer scanned with a scanner that can read transmission codes. Make sure the fluid is clean and full first, but have it scanned because there are pressure solenoids, TCC solenoids and so on which can cause the flashing.

This code appears to be for the variable valve timing sensor bank 1. Unfortunately we don't have detailed info on your vehicle as it is not offered here in the USA.

Thanks very much for your answer. I am told my car is the same as a Daihatsu Sirion. I live on a very small Island where the maximum speed limit is 40 mph! I think my problem may be related to the car never having a good drive at a decent speed. My friend took the car this morning and gave it a hard drive (exceeding the speed limit) and both lights went off and it drove fine. As soon as he had to slow down though town the O/D light came back on and was thumping once more into gear. Is there any way of disconnecting the overdrive switch? If so can you give me any help on how to do this? Thanks very much.

Unfortunately there is not a way to bypass these lights in general and I am sure your vehicle is not any different. They are set up as warning indicators so the only way to turn them off is fix the issue.

This common cause for this shifting and flashing light is a solenoid issue. However, as we said before, we don't have specific info on this vehicle so we can't provide detail about it. I would suggest starting with hooking up a scan tool if you have one and monitoring the solenoids while driving to see if they are even being applied. if they are, then It is most likely the solenoid for that shift itself.
