courtesy lights stay on all the time

Hi Clay,

It looks like all of your problems come down to fuse 17. It controls interior lights and your key-less entry. Fuse 17 powers the glove box lamp, vanity mirror lamps, trunk lid lamp, engine compartment, and all four courtesy lamp switches. The courtesy lamp switches control operation of the curb illumination lamps, the lock cylinder lamps, the under seat lamps and the dome lamps. On vehicles equipped with key-less entry, the key-less entry module operates the same lamps as the courtesy lamp switches operate.

I have added the wiring diagram so you can see for yourself. Fuse 17 is located in the interior fuse panel which I believe is under the steering column.

I removed fuse 17. It did turn off the lights on the key-less entry, but it did not effect the sun visor lights or the keyhole lights. The map lights did still work in the manual mode. Does anybody else have any suggestions? Both doors are still lit up.

This could be a problem with your automatic locking system. In the diagrams below I have included manufacturer troubleshooting flowcharts with pinpoint tests. Please go through them and let us know what you find out.

Finally ran the battery down. Got it jumped off and started. Decided I did not have time to go through all of the steps so I thought I would find a fuse to pull that would drain it. Funny thing is I pulled all the fuses in fuse box under the dash and all of the fuses in the power distribution box under the hood. With all the fuses and circuit breakers out of the car the darn lights were still on I even pulled all of the relays and they were still on.. What will turn off these lights? Obviously they are not tied into any fuse or else somebody has wired them direct. The key-less entry light still works when buttons are pushed but it does not lock or unlock the doors. It will open the trunk after code is entered and you push button 5. At this point I am completely stumped on how to turn off these darn lights and stop this power draw. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where is the box that controls the entire key-less entry system? I don't use it so I really don't need it until I can find a way to repair this problem. I thought if I could I would just disconnect the entire system, maybe that will turn off the lights. Still don't have interior lights when I open and close the doors, but they will turn on manually. The under hood light and trunk light do operate.

Honestly it sounds like have a short to power somewhere in the circuit. I have included the information you requested in the diagrams below. If you do decide to fix the system please use the troubleshooting pinpoint tests I gave you earlier. They really are straight forward and do not require any special tools to go through them. The answer was fine it just did not solve the problem.

Well I found the module for the key-less entry. Unplugged it and it did solve the problem with the lights however it turn off several other things also, including the airbag suspension. So tomorrow I will plug it back in and try something else. Can't drive without suspension. I am off Wednesday so I will spend the day trying to figure out the pinpoint tests that you provided. The module plug had eight different wires into it. If I could figure out which one turns off the key-less without turning off the suspension I would try to cut just that one. And the search goes on. Thanks for your help.
