I just had the outer tie rod end replaced about seven weeks ago give or take. I noticed some clunking an a little vibration in the front end on the same side I had the tie rod end put on. I looked under the vehicle an noticed the boot on the tie rod was split and grease all over it. Looks to be over tightened. Would over tightening it cause that?

Yes, the boot that goes around the joint. Is split. The only reason why it is still hanging on is because it looks really tight. Is it possible for it to be to tight? The tie rod is only six to seven weeks old.

Yes, it is possible to be over tight the new boots are so cheap they crack and split real quick on most of them I have seen.

Do you think I will have a problem with them replacing it? I bought it and took it to the mechanic to put on rather then them buying the part. Should I fight it?

If the part failed and has a warranty they can just warranty the part and replace it. Most shops should at least have a 12,000 mile or twelve month warranty on labor.

As far as if they over tightened it or not I cannot say.
