The temperature gauge is always at the halfway mark or above.

Good morning,

The first thing I would do is to change the thermostat as that is what controls the engine temperature.

Because it did not answer my question.
My question was very specific I asked what the operating temperature of my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero is and was told to replace my thermostat the answer has nothing to do with the question.

You gave me a 1 line question just stating it is at half way or above. What do you want me to think? What is so specific?

I gave you my suggestion based on your 1 line question.

Okay then sorry about that. but can you please tell me where the temperature gauge should be at under normal operating conditions? because cause as your first reply indicates yes I am having an overheating issue but have been given advice that it should be at a halfway mark or above.

Sorry, the rest of my answer never posted.

They are incorrect. The gauge should be just under 1/2 all the time. If it is over half, that indicates an issue. That's why I told you to start with the thermostat.
