2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette Windshield Wipers

To reset the wipers to park in the correct position, disconnect the wiper transmision (should be one star "T-30" screw) and remove. Run the wipers on intermitent cycle and turn off power during a cycle pause. Set the wiper transmission gear back on the wiper motor and tighten screw. The timing should now be set to park at correct position. Test to ensure and make adjustments if necessary.

If they start parking incorrectly again, you probably need to replace the wiper motor.

If they sometimes do go to the parked position would the linkage have changed? I could see that happening if it never returned to the park position but always stopped in the out position everytime you turned them off. But after the car warms up they usually will stop in the park down position.

Okay. So you mean say you use them today in the rain and then you shut the car off for the day and the wipers park abnormally. Tomorrow you use the vehicle on a ..not so rainy day.. and after driving for a few minutes without even using the wipers, they will automatically park back down?

If this is the case then it does sound like a wiper motor going faulty and no you wouldn't have to perform the instructions I posted last time since they do go back to correct park position.

I'm sorry I must not have explained it properly. I start the car to go somewhere it had rained and now stopped, so I turn the wipers on to clean the windshield. It is not raining now so I turn them off. They will park in the out position. Keep trying to turn them off and they park in the out position. After driving a little while I turn them off and they will go from the out position to the park position. Hope I have done a better job explaining this time.

Haha, okay. Well the principal is the same here. I'm sorry for confusing you with my example. Culprit is still the wiper motor. The limiting switch inside the motor that sends a signal telling the wipers where to park is probably faulty or going bad. This is why the problem is intermittent and takes awhile for the wipers to park in the correct position after warm up.

I replaced the motor and it didn't help, still doing the same thing. When you turn the wipers off they park in the out position. Once the car has warmed and you turn them to off they will park in the proper position. Is there a relay, module or something of that nature for the wipers or intermittent wipers system?

Okay, sorry that did not work out for you. No relay that I could find in my sources for wiper system. However, lets do some tests before we start replacing anything else here.

I have also found that the crank arm seems to be a common issue on the 2000 Silhouette, so if the tests for the wiper switch are all good, we may need to test crank arm. Crank arm removal procedures are below.

Sorry this is taking so long.

Is the C201 connector visable or hidden behind something?

To add a little more confusion to the issue I now have this scenario. Now when you turn them off. The passenger side wiper goes to the park position. And the driver’s side goes to the lower part of the windshield trying to go to the park position but stops about 3 inches short of the park position. They don’t stop in the extreme out position when you turn them off now. But do try to park. Thanks,

Sorry about that. Connector C201 is located at the bottom left side of the steering column. It should be black in color and should be a 48 Pin connector, as pictured in previous post.

Electrical issues are sometimes weird like that so you are better off testing the wiring before replacing anything else. This will help save some green, which is what we all like to do :D

Having owned one of these for the last 8 years I have had the wiper parking up problem several times. I had never removed the cam from the motor so I assume that it was properly aligned. Solution: Remove cover from cam. Spray WD40 or other cleaner/lubricant all over the cam making sure to get in between the plates of the cam. If the plates stick together, the cam will not go into the proper park position. This always worked for me. If you have removed the cam, and have reinstalled it, and they do not park correctly, make sure the cam is seated all the way down, as it must make contact with the bracket tab that is referred to in the installation instructions. If it is not seated all the way down, it will not hit the tab to engage the cam to park the wipers, it will just pass it, and park the wipers up.
