please answer 87 cutlass temp gauge!!!!!!!!!

left a post for inst. to install a mech. temp. gauge on 87 307 olds.. need to know where to put temp. probe on motor. dummy light does not work.

to the right of the thermastat, you will see a single wire going into the water temperature sending unit.
