My car won't stay running. I drove it home on the expressway and it was fine. Once I got off the expressway it started stalling out every time I stopped or slowed down. Once I got it home I can't get it to stay running. I put 2 gallons of gas in it (The gas gauge doesn't work so I thought maybe it had gotten really low) and that didn't seem to make a difference.
I can get it to start if I hold my foot on the gas pedal, but if I let off the gas or engage the brake it will stall out again. I'm really just trying to find out if it's something I can fix myself, if I need to get it towed somewhere, or if it's even worth fixing. I'm thinking it's a problem with the fuel filter or pump, but I'm not sure. Is there something else I could start looking at other than the fuel system that might get it going again. I'm looking at about a $200 budget at this point.
