I have an Oldsmobile Cutlass '98 GLS. 114,000 miles. Perfect service record all done by dealer.
One problem; the cruise control won't stay on while traveling down a highway. Is there a reason for this? Where do i look first?

Does it turn on? If yes check the deactivation switch. I believe it's on your brake pedal arm...

I forgot to question one more problem with the car. Going speeds around 30-40 and 50-60 mph the car likes to surge between 1200-1800 rpm and 1800-2100 rpm respectively. I thought that this problem was related to the cruise control problem but I think i am mistaken. Would it be the fuel pump? Or is there something else i should consider. (Also the cruise control does go on but turns off almost instantly and usually whenever i go over a bump in the road)

You should replace the switch, then if you still have surgiing problems....check the fuel rail pressure.

Hi! There are two little wires, under the hood, that have to be connected for your cruise control to work. One wire caps onto the other. If these two wires have become disconnected, this may cause your cruise control to malfunction. Ask a nice mechanic to check under the hood, to be sure these two wires for your cruise control are connected. It would just take a moment, and cost nothing in parts or labor. Good luck!
