2001 Olds Aurora Transmission

My 2001 Olds Aurora showed a code that I had checked and it is Turbine Speed Sensor. The car has 86,000 miles and runs great except for once in a while it jumps a little bit. Engine runs hot but I am told that is normal.
I have had it checked and told I need to have the transmission pulled and rebuilt for almost $3000 which includes a 3 yr 100,000 mile guarantee. I was wondering if I had the transmission filter and fluid changed if this could possible take care of my problem. I am a lady who doesn't really know what to do. I have only owned this car for 1 year and am the second owner.
Should I go ahead and have the transmission rebuilt for a bad turbine speed sensor?

A couple of questions for you. What engine is in the car a V8 or V6 ?? What code are they getting out of the computer? Does the transmission shift ok or what symtoms do you have with it? Just because there is an internal sensor that has a problem doesn't mean that the transmission has to have a complete overhaul. Did they pull the pan and find metal or clutch disc material in it?

My 2001 Olds Aurora has a V6 engine. It does shift just fine. I was driving one day about 4 weeks ago and got a malfunction light. I took it to the local Auto Zone because it was a Sunday and the only place open. They plugged in their little computer and got a P something code. The code said Turbine Speed Sendor. I then took it to my regular mechanic and he again confirmed it was the turbine speed sensor and told me I would have to have the transmission pulled and rebuilt. He said they have come up with many updated parts for the transmission. He did not pull the pan as far as I know.
The only problem that I have noticed is a slight jerk every once in awhile that does seem to be getting more frequent. Other than that the car runs and shifts just fine. 86,000 miles are on my 2001 Olds Aurora with a V6 Engine.

I would be tempted to have someone look at it. I am sure it will not be a cheap fix but unless there is metal or something in the pan I would not rebiuld the unit. I would just remove annd repair the faulty part....
