1999 Oldsmobile Bravada, 128000 miles

About a month and a half ago the heat stopped working. I flushed the radiator and heater core and the heat worked again. A week ago I started smelling antifreeze but the levels remained full. A couple days ago the heat stopped working again.

What could the issue be?

if both hoses are hot going into the engine compartment then its your blend door. if one is or neither then bleed the coolant system of the air in it.

What is a blend door? Is it difficult/expensive to fix?

I took my father-in-law's advice and purged the core. The heat works now, but who knows for how long. There were no obstructions in the core when I purged it.

the blend door controls the amount of air that goes thru the heater core causing it to heat up or bypass it and stay cool. i figured bleeding the system would help.
