How do you remove the shifter handle on a 1998 Olds Aurora?

Please help, I'm going nuts.

On the front side of the handle (toward dash) ther should be a small clip to pry out, then pop up the shifter boot from the bottom, lift the handle up carefully because ther are some wires there that will pull/break. Those must be disconnected when lifting the boot up and before the handle comes all the way off.
