1986 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
My 1986 Olds 88 was driving fine and just died all of a sudden. I checked the fuel rail and there is fuel. I just replaced the plugs and plug wires and the fuel filter as well. It will crank but will not start. What next? Because I don't have a diagnostic tool handy, is there another way of checking it with a jumper wire at the diagnostic terminal?

remove a spark plug wire and rest it near ground and crank engine over and see if there is spark coming out. these cars are notorious for bad crank sensors causing no spark. let us know

How do I check that?

yes a shorted ignition coil can also cause no spark. with a ohm meter go across each coil tower and check for resistance, it should be from 5 to 8 thousand ohms across each coil.
