I just recently got this Cutlass, and my neighbor and I have been working on it to get it going. First we had to change the battery which was easy. Then we found out after driving the car for about 10 minutes, it would red line heat up, so we decided to change the thermostat. After the painful replacement, we flushed the coolant and hoses out, and gave her another shot. Given, I've driven for over 30-40 minutes just cruising around and the car has NOT gotten to red line. I guess that's a plus, although the car does still run pretty high. About a bar higher than half way, what I'm wondering is will this eventually work it's self out? Or is there another fix I need to make? Thanks so much for any help.

Try bleeding the cooling system and see what happens

I understand, I guess my neighbor and I can give it a shot. Anything else you think it might be just in case that fails to work? Just trying to get a nice little list of what it could possibly be.

Just some more updated information. I looked at the car this morning and noticed that all the coolant I had put in it was gone! So maybe there is a leak? Or something with one of the hoses? I did notice a little puddle by the front left tire but not massive. Also, there's a red light that comes on in my car I forgot to mention. It's located on the right side of my dash where all the little oil lights and stuff come on, i think maybe it has something to do with the radiator? I'm not sure what it is. I took the car on another run today, just filled it up with water and drove it around for about a half hour. Sure enough it got very hot again, actually got to the red this time, and when I was finished driving all the water was gone. Maybe this can help you guys narrow down on what the problem is. Thanks!

One more thing to add, my friend noticed that there is a lot of back pressure in the resivour, what could be a cause for that? Maybe that's the problem?
