Electrical problem

My Cutlass has recently developed multiple problems with the doors and windows. For some time, the driver's side window would not go down. When a mechanic took the door panel off to inspect, the window started working again. After a day, it stopped working again. Then, the right front door would not open. Finally, after several tries, I was able to get the door open, but then the inside light would not turn off. Presumably this is some sort of electrical problem, but before I go off to the shop, I wonder if anyone has experienced the a similar problem and what the solution was. Many thanks.
