I located the high and low pressure service ports so I can remove the remaining R12 refrigerant and recharge with R-134a refrigerant. However, I can't find any distinguishing marks to indicate which port is high pressure and which is low pressure. Facing the front of the car, both ports are just to the right of the radiator, one near the top and one near the bottom.

Can you tell me which port is the low and which is the high pressure port?

the high pressure side is the skinny line, the low side is the fatter line.

Sorry, but this doesn't help, as both lines are the same diameter coming out of the compressor -- so I still can't tell which line is the low pressure side.

Can you tell me which is the low pressure side based on physical location of the service port?

One port is near the top of the radiator on the right side facing the front of the car, the other is near the bottom of the radiator on the right side facing the front of the car.

I'm not talking about the lines at the compressor. I'm talking about the thickness of the lines right where the ports are attached, they should be different sizes.

It has been my experience with GM cars that the upper one will be the high side if it's by the radiator.

also the low port itself will probably be larger.
sometimes the low side will be on the accumulator.

Tell me what V6 you have and I'll try to get more info.

I've got the 3.1 Liter V6 model (1993 Olds Cutlass Supreme).

If you can find more specifics that would be great, as I would have to take apart a lot of plastic cowling around the service ports to even see the diameter of the pipes going into them! As it is, I can't see the pipes right behind the ports.

Thanks for your help.

this is all i can get.
high pressure port for W bodies, In discharge line, near fender panel.
Low pressure port for W bodies, In line to accumulator, or on accumulator.

but the Low and High pressure R134 fittings will probably not screw on to the old R12 fittings if you have them backwards.
