1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Boyfriends car

The problem could be caused by several things. Is the check engine light on? Did this happen all at once or get worse over time?

It's a 3.1, check engine light is not on but when the check engine light comes on it is fine, then the check engine light stopped coming on and it started to screw up. It got worse over time. It started taking longer & longer for the check engine light to come on then it stopped coming on and stuff hit the fan. lol

what I need you to do is have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free, but I realize you can't drive it. Is there anyone you know that has a scanner or could you rent one from a parts store? If the light was on, there should be a code set on the computer and that will direct us to the problem. Without scanning, everything you replace will be nothing more than a guess.

I would say that a possibility is the Power control module might have gone bad, have you checked the alternator as well. Does it do the same thing when you turn on the lights or press the gas pedal?
