My car has been occasionally over heating for a few weeks now, the problem has only been getting worse. I changed the thermostat and it didn't help at all. Earlier today I was driving around and the temperature kept climbing and got to 250-ish before I was able to stop. I bought 2 gallons of antifreeze and added a half bottle of antifreeze and half bottle of water to the system. Steam rushed from the back area of the engine, near the transmission. I looked under the car and water was POURING from the engine, near the transmission area. I've only had the car a few months so I'm not familiar with the cooling system. Is the coolant coming from the transmission, or could it possibly be a water pump failure? I also have another problem: the car won't shift out of first gear until it reaches normal running temperature. Possibly the transmission filter/strainer?
