I have replaced the lite switch, I have the dash apart, the bulbs are ok, I get voltage out from the dash dimmer switch on the yellow wire. I move the slider and the test lite varies in brightness like it should, I probed all of the contacts in the dash blocks and do not find any voltage from the dimmer to any contacts on the blocks. The fuse (#4) is good. Courtesy lights work off the dash dimmer, emergency and all self test lights (oil, temp, battery etc), turn signal and bright indicator lights work, but I can't see my speedo or fuel gauge etc at night. also, daytime radio dial light works until I turn on park or head lights, then it goes out
thx

Could be a problem with th eprinted circuit board on the back of the instrument cluster. Test at the plug for the dash to se if you are getting the power there, if so then the board may have a bad spot in it stopping the connection

I checked the "plug" (I called them "blocks" ) that the panel connects to when installed into the dash (see my original question). I have inspected the e printed circuit sheet and it seems to be ok. I checked the bulbs. The problem is getting electricity to the "plug" from the switch. Please excuse my repetition, but it seems you did not read my original question-

plain cutlass calais- not international or any other variety- how does one distinguish between the 15 types of calais for 1988 with the 2.5 liter engine? vin number? tire size? It is equipped with ps, pb, cruise, tilt, a/c,regular appointments,(not the broghm),hand windows, non electric seats, am/fm/tape, slots in the dash for cd storage, a couple of clothing hooks, floor mats (color coordinated), "wire" wheels, etc. If this does not help. please let me know how to identify my particular calais so that you can check the schematic. ( I could not find a schematic that showed the dash wirirng).
Thanks
