I've been expirienceing problems with my Cutlass Supreme. When I start it up, especially on cold days, it idles very roughly. Even after I let it warm up for 10 minutes, it still idles rough. When I drive it, it hesitates as I pull away from stop signs. Also, when traveling over 40 mph, it starts to chug and runs rough. The check engine light sometimes comes on when this happens, sometimes it does not. Also, when I am at a stop sign or red light, when I stop the car, the oil/choke light comes on until I step on the gas to pull away. Can anyone give me some ideas of what could be wrong?
Thanks.

Ok give some info if you could ok. When was the last time you did a tune up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires and fuel filter)? Does this still have the stock carburator on it? If so you will need to do some testing ok. There is a throttle position sensor (TPS) and a coolant sensor. Both of which you will have to test ok. The Tps is where the three wire plug in is on the top of the carb and the coolant sensor is on the intake near the thermostat housing if not on it. I will include a pic of the coolant sensor. You will need a digital volt meter ok. I need you to test the tps what you will do is back probe the center and bottom terminal and turn the key on engine off and tell me what the voltage is. Lets start with that first. Now I do have a question has the carburator ever been rebuilt? If so it should be adjustable if not the adjustments are sealed. Let me know what you find and we will go from there ok.

To answer a few of your questions, 1) No I haven't gotten a tune up since I bought the car. 2)Yes, it does have the stock carb on it. 3) No the carb hasn't been rebuilt. Please send the picture of the coolant sensor. Thanks for your help. Peace.

Ok first I would like you to check the fuel mixture for me. What you need to do is get some carb cleaner and take off the air cleaner and plug any vacuum lines that might need to be removed. As it is running spray carb cleaner in the carb and see if it makes run better. If it does you need to have the carb rebuilt or rebuild it yourself if feel comfortable doing it. If you do it your self I can walk you through it. I would also like you to check the throttle shaft for loosness too. Get back to me and we go from there ok.
