A friend brought a 1996 Olds Ciera to me to trouble shot the overheating problem. Determined it had a bad primary cooling fan. Replaced the fan motor and radiator cap and flushed and reserviced the cooling system. Made sure the system was bled out and engine is now running at the correct temp. I ran the engine for about an hour to make sure the fan was coming on at the correct temp.It also had a service engine soon light. I connected my scanner and got code P0300 ( random cylindar misfire), I cleared the code and the light went off. I drove the car for a few days and on the day the friend came back for the car the light came back on. I have heard that this can me caused by a blow head gasket, which is highly possible since the primary cooling fan was bad and the engine was boiling over coolant out the reservoir overflow.
