Electrical problem
1995 Oldsmobile Ciera 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I think I have a fuel pump relay problem but I am not sure where it is. I found a row of 5 relays behind the right headlight and two to them are the correct type but I am not sure if either are the fuel pump relay. I have replaced both of those with no success. Where is the fuel pump relay located?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, underhood, passenger side front, relay pack. I don't know if you can read that? It's number 3, relay closest to radiator. Double check by looking at the wiring colors at the connector. red-- gray-- orange-- dark green wire with white tracer-- black wire with white tracer.

I had the fuse llocated by the fuel pump relay replaced and a circuit breaker as well. My car sat all winter and now won't start. The fuse by the fuel pump relay was blown so I replaced that, so I can't tell if the circuit breaker is bad because I can't locate it.
Thanks,

Is that model year correct?? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. With fuel injection, the pump maybe in the tank? I want to check voltage and ground at the pump connector, proper terminals, before deciding anything.

I resent the correct year and model and its not a four wheel drive I'v had the fuel pump replaced as well as all other fuel pump components. It quit running about two years ago. All that was wrong with it was a bad circuit breaker and a blown fuel pump fuse near the fuel pump relay.

Thanks,
Ryan

Welcome to the forum. My info shows an oil pressure switch in the fuel pump circuit parallel to the relay. Once you crank it enough to bring up oil pressure and the switch closes, the pump should run regardless of the relay. I'd check the ecm fuel pump fuse, should be located close to the fuel pump relay, underhood, passenger side front. There should also be a fuel pump test connector in that same area.

Did you use a testlite to see if the fuse circuit was hot? The prime connector should be close to relay, it is usually red or gray wire, with connector, nothing plugged into it, if you use a jumper wire and run battery voltage to the connector the pump should run. That circuit is a test connector for the pump, you don't use the key. Then you can check for voltage and ground at the pump.

Car ran great before parked in garage 3 years ago. 92 0lds cutlass ciera 3300 v-6. Told could be fuel pump. How to tell if fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel sending unit. Put new spark plugs, starts and runs while spraying starting fluid. When stop spraying starting fluid quits running. Seeking least expensive way to figure out whats actually the problem? Remember, ran and started great until parked for 3 years

If it runs on starting fluid, then either you are getting no gas from the fuel pump or you are trying to run the engine on 3 year old gas which won't work.

Was the old fuel left in the vehicle or did you drain it? Have you checked fuel pump pressure to the engine?

If you left the old fuel in there, chances are it will not start.

Fuel Pump Relay is getting no power. When I run a jumper to the red connector at the fuel pump relay and then jump this hot wire to the grey wire connector at the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump runs and the car runs. Is there a fuse before the fuel pump relay? Is it the grey wire that is to be energized at the f.p. relay and not the red one? Help. Thanks. Mike

That should be a 4 wire relay.Use a test light to figure this out.2 wires should have power, one of the others goes to tehpump and the other to theECM (Ground signal). The other one should go to ground when engine is turned on (momentarily) then stay on when running. This vehicle uses an oil pressure switch to interrrupt the fuel pressure to prevent engine damage, so be sure that the oil pressure sender is plugged in and working properly as well. According to my wiring it has a fuse near the starter, but doesnt give an exact location.

At the fuel pump harness in the back by the tank do you have power to the gray wire while cranking?

Charge the battery and retest the grey wire for power while cranking. The battery might be too dead to have the power to show on the grey wire while cranking.

I had to pawn my computer to finish getting my car fixed. So this is where i am at, I determined that the fuel pump does work but the rely doesnt I hot wired the fuel pump and the throttle body and it will turn over but not stay running. I am going to buy and rebuilt computer and a fuel pump realy. no this car is very old with alot of gerry rigging. my question is that there 'll be a message on the back of the computer that any resistance lesser than 20 ohms will destroy the new computer. how do I prevent this from happining as I dont understand ohms or electrical principals yet?
