Engine Cooling problem
1989 Oldsmobile Ciera 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Have leaking freeze plug located on engine side next to transmission. Leak is slight (2 ozs per day). Would appreciate any recomendation for repair to stop leak which does not require engine and transmission removal.
Car is high mileage (190,000), runs and looks very good. Used only for local driving (light duty).

If you can get the old one out, they make an expanding rubber plug...put it in the hole and tight with a wrench.

A local mechanic's opinion is that the leaking freeze plug plug can only be reached by seperating transmission and engine and to do that the engine/transmission has to be removed then seperated to expose the freeze plug needing repair.
I am searching for any method to adequately plug the minor leak without having to go to all that investment of time and money.
Hoping for some approach whereby I can patch this at home. Otherwise I will have to take the old girl out behind the barn and shoot her.

So a pressure test was done, and revealed a leaky freeze plufg at the rear of the engine? And antifreeze leaks out between the engine and transmission? Then yes, shoot her!
