The remote filter was a way to help cool the engine oil; thus, help cool the engine. As far as your question, the engine in your vehicle isn't set up for a traditional filter and can't be changed.

If I had to guess, you want to change it because of leaks. They all seemed to leak after a few miles. You can replace the lines or the o-rings if that is the problem.

Let me know if you have other questions and thanks for using 2carpros.com.

I just built and replaced my engine and put a new remote filter set up on, its all brand new does not leak. I wanted to make sure that the remote filter was not a necessity or there where not going to be any clearance issues. I believe that there is a spot for a traditional filter under my engine or a place for an adaptor to convert it over to the traditional filter. Do you have any recommendations for an adaptor I put a standered oil pump and I forgot to consider the remote filter when I built the engine so I did not use a high flow oil pump I want to make sure I get plenty of oil circulation oil pressure is good but I could increase oil pressure and oil circulation by removing the remote filter.

Honestly, I recommend staying with what you have. It shouldn't have any affect on the pressure and it will help cool the oil. As far as an adapter, the only recommendation I would have is contact a dealer and get a direct fit if one is available.

on a non-remote filter 4.3 engine the book says put in 4.5 quarts of oil for fill up. do you add an extra quart for the remote filter. Or what is recommended.

I believe they both take the same. Start at 4 1/2. Yours may take 4 3/4 to fill but if I recall corretly, they take 4 1/2.

well after getting under the engine and checking out the remote filter I found out that there is about 2 inch clearance issue between the filter and drive line there is a spin on spot for the filter but it will not fit you would have to do a 4 inch body lift to be able to use a traditional filter set up and it would still be difficult to get the filter in place so not going to happen. Also it took 5 1/2 quarts of oil to top off every thing, the remote filter holds the extra quarts at least that what works for me. but I know why the remote filter is there know.

Thanks for you help
