The timing chain shattered in my 2002 alero, dealership says i need a new engine ranging from $2200 - $4500. is it possible to just replace the timing chain to get the car running again? i have seen timing chain kits on ebay from $100 - $150. anyone's thoughts?

They didn't really explain much to me and I didn't know what questions to ask. This is all they said "the timing chain blew all apart" they contacted GM and we're told that the motor would need to be replaced.

I had it taken there because it wouldn't start. I went to start the car like any other day, the car was turning over and then there was a pop like it was going to start, but it didn't.

I am taking it someone else for the repairs, figuring that if it does need a new motor as they said, so it should be less than what a dealership charges for parts/labor.
