2001 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cyl Automatic

When I start my Alero it makes a horrible sounds. And when I start driving it makes a clunking sound. Gets worse when I accelerate. Sounds like its coming from the engine. Any ideas?

sounds like a pushrod has broke, or the timing belt skipped and caused some damage to the engine. we can't know until a compression check is done or the valve cover and or the timing cover is removed for inspection
