2001 Oldsmobile Alero noise while using "outside air&q

When I use the air condtioning and use "outside air" there is a weird scraping noice coming from the engine, even when it is not moving. However, when I have the air recirculate then there is no noise.

If it only happens when you switch to outside air, it is most likely a vent door causing the noise from under the dash. Does the AC still work when you hear this?
