2000 Oldsmobile Alero Hesitation

If there is no light, start by looking for vacuum leaks. Also, remove the EGR and check to see if it is plugged with carbon. Also, make sure the EGR valve is working properly.

thank you for the info,now how would i check for vaccuum leaks can u hear it sucking air or how would i go about that and where is the egr valve

If you are lucky, you will a hissing when the engine is running. Also, do a visual inspection to make sure there are no hoses off, dry rotted, or damaged.

Finally, and I don't like to tell this way, you can use starting fluid or carb cleaner to find them, but you must be careful. What you do is with the engine running, you spray around the vaccum hoses, intake... If you hit a vacuum leak, the engine will rev up on its own. My concern telling this to people is the fact that either choice, starting fluid or carb cleaner, are very flamable. If you hit a spot on the engine, for example the exhaust manifold, it could catch fire. If you do this, make sure to have a fire extinguisher near by that is designed for oil or grease fires. DO NOT EVER SPRAY WATER ON AN ENGINE FIRE. It will make it worse.
