I have a 1999 Olds Alero. It starts, then quicky shuts off. there is also the smell of gas and white smoke coming out the back. PLEASe help!

Hi:
If you are getting white smole from the exhaust, it may be a head gasket problem. Has the car been using coolant? If so, you need to do a compression test to see if there is a head gasket problem.
To do it, go to this page for directions. Also, many parts stores will lend or rent the tool.
