My 1999 Alero stalls when I stop at a stopping point. The motor shakes when it is cranked and in park. Several mechanics did not know the answer to my problem, and gave my several different answers. I know that it has high mileage, but I kept it service well with my highway miles. I took it to another mechanic today, and he told me that I need a "map sensor." I want to know did I make the right decision in buying one. The part will be in tomorrow. I also had the car tuned up about two weeks ago. I felt like the part was the right decision, because he explained the whole process to me.

Is the check engine light on? If so before you go to the machanic go by your local auto zone and have them pull codes and write them down. They will do it for free. And if any of the codes indicate the MAP Sensor go ahead and have it replaced.
