Where is the thermostat located and how do I replace it?

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Disconnect the negative battery cable. CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions. Drain the coolant to a level below the thermostat. Recover the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System. NOTICE: When adding coolant, use DEX-COOL (R) coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50,000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months. Remove the air inlet to the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management. Disconnect the surge tank inlet pipe from the thermostat housing. If the coolant outlet is being replaced, disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the coolant outlet.

Remove the 2 bolts from the coolant outlet. Remove the coolant outlet.

Remove the thermostat. Clean the mating surfaces. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Install the thermostat.

Install the coolant outlet to the thermostat housing. Install the coolant outlet bolts. *Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Install the radiator inlet hose to the coolant outlet, if the hose was removed.

Install the surge tank inlet pipe to the thermostat housing. Install the air inlet to the throttle body. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management. Refill the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System. Connect the negative battery cable. *Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Start the engine.
