1999 Oldsmobile 88 Car shuts off while driving

Hi, I have a 99' Oldsmobile 88. At random times while driving it will just shut off. If you put it in neutral it will start right back up. Sometimes the check engine light is on sometimes its off. We have replaced what the codes said were bad, (mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor, and oxygen sensor). Currently the check engine light is on but the car will still shut off at random. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. I have already sunk a ton of money into this and its not safe to try and drive.

You mentioned the check engine light is still on. Have you had the computer rescanned? Does it have any different codes?

I started up the car yesterday and the check engine light is not currently on. The last time we rescanned it all it had was the old codes for what we replaced. It has came back on here and there but goes back out.

No. Not since the one was up for the oxygen sensor and we have replaced that. I don't have my own tester so I can't keep checking it every day. And as I said the lights been off for a little while now.

To me it sounds like an ignition module. However, without the check engine light, it becomes a guessing game.

Just FYI, most nationally recognized parts stores will scan the computer for free. At least you won't get charged if you have been. I would try taking the car there, have them scan it and reset it for you. If the light comes on again, then it will be a new code. Even if the prior code comes up, we'll know it was cleared and it set it again. You could have gotten a bad part.

Let me know what you think. I wish I could give you a straight out answer, but with today's cars, it isn't as easy as it once was.
