1998 Oldsmobile 88 overheating problem

the oldsmobile i have keeps running hot, and i keep coolant and water in it and it still continues to run hot. could my fan need repalcing or is there something else possible affecting the car to overheat?
i also just replaced the transmission in it not too long ago and it ran alot better for a little while and then started to overheat. sometimes when i'd come back to the car it would'nt start for a little while it wouldn't even turn over....i'd let it sit for like an hour and it crank right up, but sometimes i wouldn't even do that and i had to tow it home...what do you think i should do?

For your overheating problem try replacing the thermostat and see what happens.

Refusing to start and the engine will crank over do below to determine if its fuel or spark problem.

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs,coil's resistances,cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM,Ignitor cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it
