Battery cables do not go thru the firewall, the negative goes to the engine block, the positive goes to the battery junction box, and the starter. You shouldnt need a jack...

Remove the negative cable FIRST, and put it back on LAST ok?

Your drawing details piece by piece... The battery is setup pos N Meg S as drawn. However, that's as close as the drawing gets. The positive wire has two larger wires and a thin wire connected. The actual conector has TWO METAL LOOPS/PLATES that must remain in contact with side mounted terminals. The wires are all red. The thin one isn't wrapped. The two larger are wrapped in that thin tube like plastic that is ribbed and slit down the entire center so as to wrap it around instead of pulling through.
Here is where the problem for me begins. The Positive cable DOES run thru the firewall both cables do. I have pulled on both to "Run" the cables back to connections. They both go into the fire wall on the right side or passenger side. The third I can't say the car is gone till tomorrow daughter has it not knowing it isn't fixed. Had to pull replace and install new toliet in our Master. Wife came first. So I only remember what I saw and have read. Several other sites stated thru fire wall too.
The Negative has TWO connectors as well and I think a thin wire that runs to the engin top and under the plastic cover and sort of disapears. I can remember where the other two thicker wires go right now. I will know more detail in next mail I send if you require more information.
I am sure it's a 93 olds 88. It is a v6 the transverse engine that GM used in millions of cars. It has the push buttons that run across the entire lower dash. Example. Time Change Oil, Day date hour etc. And twenty more buttons to push. It is loaded with every option they had it seems. So it draws tons of electric and has too many main and item fuses.
What else? Could it be a 1994? By these discriptions? I just replaced the Alt so problem of off and on is due to these cables at battery and below.
But maybe I'm wrong and the pos splits off SOMEWHERE BEFORE FIREWALL.
BUT if it was as straight forward as your sketch we would not be emailing.
Please RE-Check your manuals. I will try also to send photo of cables next email to you. Also can I get to this response button when this is sent? If not please send new contact button or address to respond.
LASTLY, please do not forget to answer the questions concerning either pictures or sketches of underside of car and will I need drive up ramps to get to the connection? Do I need to remove other parts need any special tools etc. All the above questions still need answers if I am right about cables thru firewall.
