Engine oil smells like gas and no spark

Hi,

The smell of fuel in the oil is likely from trying to start it with no spark to the plugs. If the fuel doesn't get burned, it will wash past the cylinder rings and into the oil. You will need to change it.

As far as the spark, it sounds like it could be related to the crankshaft position sensor. Here is a link that explains common symptoms:

If the sensor fails, you will lose spark. You can test it with a live data scan tool. Basically when the engine is cranking, you should see an RPM signal on the scanner. If there isn't, that is the likely cause.

The crankshaft sensor is located on the driver side of the vehicle, above the differential housing. The bottom of the sensor sits above the drive plate.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Unlock and disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft position sensor.
3. Remove sensor mounting screw. Remove sensor.
