Oil pump shaft/gear

I have a crank no start situation with my car and found out that the bolt that holds the oil pump gear to the shaft is broken and the gear is stuck to one side causing the outer rear timing balancer belt to stop rotating.

Could this be the reason why the car wound not start? if so, what would be the best way to fix it and hopefully have it run?

Hi,

I attached a picture below. Take a look at it and let me know which component has broken. Also, if the timing belt has been damaged, jumped time, or is not turning, there is a concern of internal engine damage. The engine is an interference engine. If possible, record the engine cranking so I can hear it.

Hi. Thank you for your quick response. This issue started when the car suddenly lost power when driving. The engine turns and the timing is skipped and upon checking the belt. I noticed that the lower balancer belt grooves were damaged and the top gear (oil pump)was stuck to one side and the bolt holding it was broken inside as seen on the image.

lower part of the oil pump gear seamed sheared.

Hi,

I looked at the pics. Which gears do you feel were damaged? The gears in the pics look okay. I attached an exploded view of the oil pump. Was there damage done to it?

Please keep in mind, since the belt jumped timing, there is a chance that internal damage was done to the pistons and or valves in the cylinder head.

The oil pump was not damaged but the small gear on the image is stuck on one side and not rotating. normally it would come off once the bolt is removed but the 12 mm bolt broke off inside and hard to get it out. any suggestions? another thing, i removed the spark plug from number one and found that the ignition part was smashed although the others are fine and engine rotates.

If the electrode is smashed on the plug, something hit it. I have a feeling a valve is bent. Honestly, before putting any time or money into the engine, I would pull the head to see what has happened. If number 1 is damaged, chances are others are too. You may be better off replacing the engine with a good used one.
