Oil pump replacement

Was on the highway when I realized that my oil gauge was not showing any pressure. There no knocking or anything so I drove it on home. I drove it on home. I've replaced the oil sensor about 3 years ago. I got another one, but my question is, can I replace the oil pump without rising up the engine? The reason I'm asking is Dodge had a recall about 10 years ago and when they replaced the exhaust it now goes under the transmission. If the oil pump pickup is in the back I think there is enough room to get the pan off. But if the pickup is towards the front I'll have to loosen the motor mounts to lift the engine. Didn't mean to be so long.

Good morning,

I posted the procedure below. It looks like you do not have to raise the engine in the 2 wheel drive.

I would do a manual pressure test first to confirm the pressure is not there. It could be the sensor.

Roy

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On all engines except 8.0L/V10-488, remove engine oil dipstick.
3. raise and support vehicle.
4. Drain engine oil, then remove exhaust crossover pipe and left engine to transmission strut.
5. Remove oil pan attaching screws, oil pan and gasket(s). It may be necessary to loosen right engine support bracket cushion through bolt and raise engine slightly for clearance.
6. On 8.0L/V10-488 engine, remove oil pickup tube assembly and discard gasket.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Clean oil pan in solvent and inspect condition of oil screen.
b. On all models except 8.0L/V10-488, apply a small amount of suitable sealant to corner of cap and block and install new one-piece gasket.
c. On 8.0L/V10-488 models, apply a small amount of suitable sealant at split lines between cylinder block, front cover and crankshaft rear seal assembly.
d. oil pan and must be installed within three minutes of sealant application.
e. Install new one-piece gasket.
f. Tighten oil pan bolts to specifications.

I didn't have to raise the engine or take the bolt out of the motor mount. There was enough clearance to get the pan out. I did have to remove the starter and the plate covering the flywheel. I did remove both transmission struts, just made the job easier. For anybody that does this I do recommend that you order Dorman part #45722 oil pan gasket alignment tool. It will make this job so much easier. I checked Napa, Advance, Auto Zone, and O'Reliys nobody carried it. It turned a three hour job in to 8. But I got it done Thanks for the input, gave me a good starting point.

One last thing the pan bolt are at 200in lbs which comes out to 16.6ft lbs . I just set my wrench at 17.
