Oil not getting to the top of the engine. Valves and lifters making noise. Car wont stay running. How do I tell if it is the oil pump itself or if it is the pump drive?

check fluid level first then check for pressure if you can find a tap plug. then pull drive and see if it has a broken shaft it may have or pin on gear. if those are okay it is either the pump or a main bearing has spun.

Oil is full. no pressure that I can tell. Just replaced the pressure sensor thinking that may have been the problem. Can pull the dipstick after starting the car and it has not moved up the stick like you would see if it was pumping properly.

it has a shaft about 5/16" in diameter if that is broken something got into pump like maybe a broken piece of tensioner or valve seal.

Alright, starting to tear down and check the shaft. Will be back with more one way or the other I am sure.
