The oil pressure light and the stop light came on, when my revs were under 1,100 rpm. The car is idle at approximately 900 rpm. This happened yesterday on my way home from work, which was approximately a twenty minute drive. I kept the revs above 1,100 rpm so the lights did not come on.

Today, I tried the car again and this did not happen. It drove fine.

How is the oil level in the engine?
Do you change oil on time always?
When the oil light came on, was there any excess noise coming for the engine such a lifters clanking, etc.?

If the oil is full, and you change the oil on schedule or reasonably close, and there was not any extra noises being made, you most likely have a bad oil pressure sender. This is a fairly cheap part to buy and easy to install.

The oil level with the dip stick is about half way. On the dash, when I turn the car on, the oil is now showing as full though. I haven't noticed any clanking etc., and I have been trying to listen out for it.

I have not changed the oil as I have only had the car for three months. I bought it with a full service and MOT.

I just drove home from work and it did it again. Oil pressure light and stop light when below 1,100 rpm.

Do you still think this could be the pressure sensor?

Thank you for your response.

Yes I believe so. This happened to me before. I replaced the sender and all was well.
