we have a 2003 elantra with the 2.0 hvt engine and lately the oil light comes on when vehicle is warmed up and driven a short distance..
prior to purchase this car did not get an oil change for over 60,000kms and I believe the oil pump is failing, what do your mechanics believe?
as a precaution and possibly to rectify the problem we removed the sump and replaced the con rod bearings as there was slop in one of the pistons, this rectified this fault and the crank looked fine,no scores.
I am of the opinion that oil pump is failing and simply looking for confirmation from others that have had or seen this problem with the 2.0 Hyundai engines, any help would be appreciated.mark

To rule out the oil pump, you must check the actual oil pressure with an oil pressure gauge- could be the oil pressure gauge/switch acting up-start here
