Oil light blinking then solid after 20 minutes of engine running when engine is idle. When the RPMs are at 1,200 or more the light oil light is gone. The oil level is fine. It burns one quart of oil every 500 miles.

Hi,

The first thing I suggest is to check the oil pressure switch. I've seen them start leaking between the sensor and the connector. That allows the light to come on.

Here is what to do. Locate the oil pressure sender at the rear of the cylinder head. See pic 1 for location. Disconnect the connector and check for oil in the connector. If there is, replace the sensor. If there isn't, then you need to check the pressure using a mechanical gauge.

To do this, you will need to get a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Most parts stores will lend one to you. Then, remove the electric switch on your vehicle and screw in the mechanical gauge. Start the engine and see what the actual pressure is at idle when at operating temperature and let me know what it is.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
