Oil leaks

So just got it back from a 300 pound mot and the eml comes on immediately. Goes back in garage and basically it was an egr valve issue. More investigation shows a pipe to the egr has imploded due to corrosion from an oil leak. MORE investigation and now another 125 down it has been discovered that the oil is leaking from the rocker cover and base head gasket. Apparently four hour labour plus parts. Does this sound correct and are oil leaks usually stopped pretty well without it being an indication of something more sinister?

What doesn't add up is that oil doesn't cause corrosion or rust, it actually prevents it.

Well they said the oil leak had softened a certain pipe coming from the egr valve and it had imploded. They fixed it and now for the moment the eml light is staying off. They say the oil leaks are not imperative but they will send me a quote for those (rocker cover by the breather tube and the base of head gasket apparently) and a quote for the air mass breather which they say needs replacing because it's functioning 20% less than it should do. I don't know weather to just get rid of the car because of the mileage while it still has full mot or stick with it because it's been a good car up until they had it.

None of their story makes sense. Oil WILL NOT damage a metal pipe. and the 20% statement sounds like snake oil.

OK, then you description of corrosion was the issue. Yes, oil can deteriorate rubber.
