Oil Deflector removal instructions needed

I have to be honest. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Behind the crank pulley / harmonic balancer, there is an front seal. Take a look at the attached pic and tell me if you see what you are referring to.

Thanks for your response. I've drawn a blue line around the part I'm inquiring about. The oily messy part behind the pulley. I think it's what BMW calls Oil Deflector.

On second thought, it may be the oil pan. Do think the leak comes from the gasket. It's heck of a job to replace. If so, can I just use some leak stop to get rid of the leak temporarily? This is an old car, not worth the effort to change the gasket.

As far as an old car, it's older, but one of the good ones. I honestly never trust an oil stop leak product. Not that it will hurt the engine, but they rarely seem to work. There are some which are better than others, but regardless of product, it is totally based on what is leaking and how bad the leak is.

If you want, I can provide the directions for pan gasket removal and replacement. Also, there is a crankshaft seal that could also be leaking behind the pulley / harmonic balancer. I can give you that info too if you want.

Here are the directions for replacing the seal:

2004 BMW X5 (E53) L6-3.0L (M54)
Procedures
Vehicle Engine, Cooling and Exhaust Engine Seals and Gaskets Front Crankshaft Seal Service and Repair Procedures
PROCEDURES
Replacing Radial Seal In Lower Timing Case Cover
Remove vibration damper, refer to Harmonic Balancer, Service and Repair.

Note:
With the version
Vibration damper and hub for vibration damper (two parts).
Remove hub for vibration damper.

Fit special tool 11 2 383 to crankshaft.

Fit special tool 11 2 385 to crankshaft.
Align groove of special tool 11 2 385 to feather key of crankshaft.

Note: Special tool 11 2 385 centered special tool 11 2 380.

Screw in special tool 11 2 380 until it has made firm contact with radial seal.
Remove radial seal by tightening screw on special tool.

Installation:
Coat sealing lips of new radial sealing ring with oil.
Using special tool 11 3 280 and centering screw, install new radial seal flush with timing case cover.
