Oil change

I just recently did my oil change on my car it is the lX model. After i finished i took it for a drive and noticed it was leaking a lot of oil. so i looked in the filter box and noticed i had not replaced the old o-rings on the filter. so i removed the filter again and replaced the o-rings and screwed it back on. so i went on another drive to check it out when i got back home i noticed it did not drip as much as the first time, but i still see a few oil drops. Could my oil filter have been damaged from the beginning or replaced it without the new o-rings or could it just excessive oil in the frame that leaked from the first time?
