OBDII keeps giving communication error

Using an OBDII i keep getting a communication error although it is connected properly. is there another diagnostic code reader i should be using? Ute sometimes doesnt want to start. Fuel pressure and spark is fine. If i leave ignition on until the engine light goes out the car will start.

Some code readers are not compatible and would not read so you might need to try any model. You can try bridging the # 1 and # 4 terminal of the DLC and turning the ignition on to check if the MIL flashes the codes. If yes, you can read the flash code and for a more accurate code, get another reader/scan tool to check.

Furthermore on what the above user has said the early mitsubishi vehicle that run OBDII use a certain type of ISO protocol, so if you are to buy another scantool, ensure that it supports the correct ISO protocols

That was what I encountered previously. My normal code reader could not communicate with the system.
